SDNsquare is the trusted partner of many leading media and broadcast providers. We have delivered several successful media network/storage projects and technology, where the performance speaks for itself.

Our solutions and recommendations, including our GRID IP network controller and WARP storage cluster network are now live at RTBF, VRT, SBS, the Flemish and Francophone archives in Belgium, France 24, NPO, etc. Below we describe a small selection of these projects and implementations.

In 2018, our GRID IP network controller has been used by a leading provider of broadcast services and facilities in their delivery of a global live sports event. If you would like more information about this, or any of the implementations listed below, don't hesitate to get in touch.

global SPORTS event for the first time RAN with IP

In 2018, our GRID IP network controller has been used by a leading provider of broadcast services and facilities in their delivery of a global live event.

Shaders were never informed that IP would be the underlying network. Afterwards they complimented us that they had a similar experience like SDI, there was no difference. The whole setup was configured and re-configured automatically for the different events. Remote control and monitoring was in place.

MEDIA DATACENTER FOR ALL LIVE AND NON LIVE PRODUCTIONS

Storage - Network performance x 5

SDNsquare took over the infrastructure architecture and project role from an original project partner in RTBF's NUMPROD 2.0 project. NUMPROD2 is the new production platform for the whole organization (local and remote). Using on SDNsquare's technology and storage network expertise, the team increased performance of the platform from 30 Gpbs to 150 Gbps – with the same hardware installed.

After the project successfully delivered, SDNsquare is taking of the platform under managed services 24/7/365.

ARCHIVE PROCESSING

STORAGE - Network performance x 4

VIAA digitises and preserves images and audio from Flanders, tasked with to making the content accessible for everyone. SDNsquare reviewed VIAA's architecture and increased the transcoding performance by a factor of four. In this way VIAA can transfer 4 times more content than before; or handle 4K items at the speed of HD. The total system handles more than 300,000 media items, amounting to 8PB.

Following the design and implementation phase, SDNsquare now manages the platform 24/7/365.

COMMERCIAL TV - CENTRAL STORAGE

SBS BELGIUM –  TV4

SBS Belgium, which manages television and radio channels (including Vier and Vijftv) and is co-owned by Telenet (Liberty Global group), chose SDNsquare’s WARP as its new state-of the art production platform. Our solution enables editing and handling of content on a central storage system without local caching. WARP's bandwidth control allows SBS to manage and guarantee bandwidth for each individual user or client of the central storage.

SBS has chosen SDNsquare’s WARP as its new state-of the art production platform. SBS Belgium manages a number of media channels (Vier, Vijftv...) and is now co-owned by Telenet (Liberty Media group)

“At SBS we were looking for a solution that allows editing and handling of our content on a central storage without local caching. Today, WARP is simply the best-suited solution in the market. And it fulfils all our requirements for the foreseeable future. We were especially impressed by WARP’s unique feature of ‘bandwidth control’. This allows us to manage and guarantee bandwidth for each individual user or client of the central storage.”

Bart Andries, IT Manager of SBS Belgium.

IMD London

Intermedia Design Inc. (IMD) is a content distribution company focusing on television and radio commercials and music videos. It links the post-production houses producing the content with the broadcasters that air the content. This makes them a kind of digital postman for the industry. IMD was created fifteen years ago and employs 80 people. It helps broadcasters, agencies and sales houses put their various media components together, making them ready to go on air.

“The WARP Media Data Centre has given our staff and company the confidence that they can handle any volume of any media files, effectively, efficiently and rapidly.”

John Bolton, technical director at IMD

CONVERGED NETWORKING and LIVE-IP DEMONSTRATION AT VRT SANDBOX

VRT's Live-IP proof-of-concept was the world's first 100% converged media network, with editing, file transfer and SDI/IP over the same network. SDNsquare's GRID IP network controller provided a controlled mix of best effort connectivity (for normal IT traffic and non-critical media IP traffic) and guaranteed flows (mission critical media IP traffic).
